    1. [S4] Obituary.
The passing of Carl Douglas MacNabb of Woodstock Road, Fredericton occurred on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital.
Born in Fredericton August 26, 1920, he was the oldest of five children to the late J. Roy and Chrissie (Hinchey) MacNabb.
He is survived by three sisters, Ethel Livingstone, Dorothy MacMonagle and Jean MacLean (Eugene), sister-in law, Ruby MacNabb. Several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Allison MacNabb.
Carl began his career at a young age at the Fredericton Welding Shop, later at Horsnell’s Machine Shop, and in 1951 he became the Maintenance Supervisor for the RCMP at J. Division Headquarters in Fredericton. He spent 41 years in his position, retiring in 1992.
He was an excellent machinist, who could design and build almost any part for a machine which could not be obtained commercially. He was truly a “Mr Fix It”. He was instrumental in helping to keep the City Hall clock operating for many years by using his imagination and expertise to create makeshift parts to keep the city’s timepiece accurate. To his many friends, he gave freely of his time making or repairing machinery, for which he would take nothing in return.
Carl spent many enjoyable summers at his summer cottage at Fanjoy’s Point on Grand Lake, which he built with great precision and pride. In his younger years he owned a Harley Davidson motorcycle and was co-owner of a Sea-Bee airplane, from both of which he received much pleasure.
Visitation will take place at Bishop’s Funeral Home on Thursday, October 15th form 7-9 Pm and on Friday, October 16th, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will take place at Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday October 17th, 2009 at 2 PM, with Rev. Dr. Chris Levan of Wilmot United Church Officiating. Interment will take place in the family plot at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association, NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
