Harry W. Spain, 87, of Belmont, passed away on March 4, 2014, after a period of failing health and peacefully at home with his family and friends beside him. Born in Manchester, on April 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Walter and Lillian (Erickson) Spain. He graduated from St. Joseph High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, 1943-1946. He worked for Frosted Foods in Manchester as a sales associate, then moved to the Lakes Region where he owned two restaurants. Harry also worked at the Hooksett tollbooth. In his youth, he enjoyed horse shoes, as well as singing at the Pulaski Club. Harry was a loving husband, and a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and also loved music from the 1940s.
Family members include his wife of 43 years, Cynthia (Hamel) Spain, his three sons William (wife Danica) Spain of Bristol, Stephen (wife Kelley) Spain of Goffstown, and Peter A. Spain of Belmont, his two daughters, Sandy (husband Jim) Sullivan of Massachusetts, Jill (husband Bob) Ouellette of Hooksett, his grandchildren, William, Michael, Rachel, Stephen, Josh, Elizabeth, Kasey, James, and Albert. His great grandson Liam brightened his last days.
He was predeceased by his brothers Walter Jr. and Fred Spain and sister Nancy Lynch. Harry will also be missed by his special friends with whom he sang songs, told jokes and held many good conversations they include Angela Diberto, Fred Rice, Dick Cummings and the Tioga Dr. Circle of Friends.
