Amy Eileen (Paterson) Black 1912-2004 NEW CANAAN, NB –
Amy Eileen (Paterson) Black passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the Sussex Health Care Center. Born at Canaan Forks, NB on March 26, 1912, Amy was the daughter of the late Robert M. L. and Mary A. (Kierstead) Paterson, and wife of the late Vaughan R. Black. A homemaker all her life, she took care of many children (besides her own), seniors and boarders over the years. A member of the New Canaan Baptist Church, she loved cooking, gardening, playing cards and doing handiwork, including making quilt blocks of which she made blocks in her 90th, 91st, 92nd, and 93rd years.
A loving mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and aunt, she is survived by eight daughters, Gwendolyn Keith (Harley), Marie Keith (Walton), Norma Ross (Douglas), Velma Black, Myrna MacLeod (Stuart), Beatrice Scribner (Clifford), Alta Tait (Robert), and Clara Boyd (Ronald); two sons, Wendall (Janet) Black and Reace Black; twentynine grandchildren; 62 greatgrandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren; three sisters, Norma Humphrey of Halifax, NS, Sylvia Herrington of Lawrencetown, NS, and Ethel (Arnold) Sleep of Coles Island, NB; and several nieces and nephews. Amy was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Robert (Bus) and Cyril; and five sisters, Jennie, Althea, Iva, Louise, and Unavieve. The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Atkinson and Dr. Morton, extra-mural nurses, staff at Ford’s Apothecary (especially Candi), staff at Kiwanis Nursing Home and Sussex Health Care Center, and home care workers for the care given to Amy. A special thank you to Norma Perry who was one of Amy’s homemakers for eight years. Amy touched and influenced many lives and will always be loved by those dearest to her.
Resting at Armstrong’s Funeral Home, Petitcodiac with visiting hours on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral will be held from the New Canaan Baptist Church on Saturday, December 18, 2004 at 2pm, with Rev. W. Ward, Rev. K. Young, and Rev. R. Steeves officiating. A private graveside service will be held at the New Canaan Cemetery.
