PORTSMOUTH –
Shirley “Jean” Erickson, 88, entered into eternal peace on Tuesday March 26, 2013 at Webster at Rye in Rye, New Hampshire.
Shirley was born on April 4, 1924, the daughter of the late Earle “Pop” Cournoyer and step mother Martha C. Cournoyer. She graduated from Traip Academy in 1940. She married the late John “Swede” Erickson in May 1946 and together travelled a military life until John’s retirement from service in 1961. They remained faithful companions until John’s death in 1992.
Jean was a devote member of the North Congregational Church and an active member at Nearly New at the Parish House. Shirley was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others.
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her; loving daughter Ellen Pongrace, son-in-law Joseph Pongrace, son Thomas E Erickson, daughter-in- law Heather M. Erickson. Shirley leaves four grandsons, Logan M. Erickson (Atlanta, GA), Seth T. Erickson (Memphis, TN), Matthew Pongrace (North Hampton) and Jake Pongrace (North Hampton).
Shirley blessed many and was blessed by the devotion of relatives as Betty and Ken Robbins and dearest friend Dottie Lee. Their kindness will live forever in all our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at the North Congregational Church, Market Square, Portsmouth, Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 2:00pm. A memorial visitation will be held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home -Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, from 4:00pm - 6:00pm Friday, March 29, 2013. Interment will be later in the spring at Bourne National Cemetery, where she will join late husband John F. Erickson at the Cape. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 355 Spinney Road, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
