Henry Erickson, 81, of 84 Gates street, a resident of Portsmouth for more than 43 years, died at his home last night after a long illness.
He was born in Erbru, Sweden, Oct. 28, 1870, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eric Anderson.
In 1895, he came to this country and was employed for several years with the Eastern Forge Co., of Nashua coming to Portsmouth with that firm in 1910.
He later was employed at the Portsmouth naval shipyard and for more than 25 years was custodian of the First National bank and the Piscataqua Savings bank, retiring in 1939.
Mr. Erickson attented the Middle Street Baptist church.
Mr. and Mrs. Erickson celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Jan. 19.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Maude (Florence) Erickson, he is survived by two sons, Herbert H. of Portsmouth and Warrant Officer John F. Erickson, stationed at Fort Belvoir, Va.; seven daughters, Mrs. John H. Veeneman of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Walter Spain of Manchester, Mrs. Leonard Trow of Candia, Mrs. Martha Cournoyer and Mrs. Barbara Watkins, both of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Andrew Leary and Mrs. William Brisson, both of Kittery; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bernard Erickson of Hartford, Conn., and several nieces and nephews.
