BAILEYVILLE –
Patricia Marie Fitzsimmons, 77, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. Pat was born Oct. 25, 1933, in St. John, New Brunswick, daughter of the late John and Jessie (Stewart) Hayes.
After attending school in St. John, New Brunswick, she moved to St. Stephen, New Brunswick, to work at Ganong’s Chocolate Factory. On Oct. 1, 1953, she married George E. Fitzsimmons in St. Stephen, New Brunswick. After her marriage, Pat devoted herself to her husband and her five children. Later in life she became a department manager for Mammoth Mart and Ames, Calais, and then a custodian for Woodland School Department, where she still worked until her death. Pat was a communicant of St. James the Greater R.C. Church, Baileyville, where she was active with many church functions. Pat enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and their friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Paul Fitzsimmons; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Anna and Danny Armstrong; son-in-law, Ron Armstrong; two sisters, Frances Hayes and Eileen Shields; and two brothers, Harry and John Hayes. Surviving are her loving husband of 57 years, George E. Fitzsimmons; a son, Jeffrey Fitzsimmons and his wife, Debbie, of California; three daughters, Frances Engroff of Baileyville, Patricia Metta and her husband, George, of Baileyville, and Laura Butler and her husband, Fred, of Casco; two sisters, Jessie Stewart of San Diego and Mary Bender of St. Stephen, New Brunswick; 12 grandchildren, Rory, Joshua, Spec. Aaron, Nicole, A.J., Jordan, Hannah, Kimberly, Brian, Adam, Ryan and Heidi; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Ella Robinson and Rita McLaughlin, along with many other dear friends; and her feline companion, Nervey.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James the Greater R.C.
