HOYT, PATRICIA MARGARET. – Born April 10, 1921, in Edinburgh, Scotland, the second daughter of David Watt Page and Frances Allen (MacSorley) Page. Died in Halifax, December 31, 2009, at the age of 88 years. Moved to London, England, then lived in Ottawa, Canada from 1930 to 1940, where she attended high school. She returned to England after the start of the war and joined the WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary of the Air Force). She served from 1942 until her demobilization in March of 1946, and was discharged with the rank of ASO (Section Officer). She then worked in an export- import firm in London until her marriage to Charles Keith Hoyt on August 28, 1948. Paddy was a homemaker, gardener, and talented crafts-person who enjoyed sharing her abilities with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She was a much loved member of the community of Hall’s Road which was her home for 46 years. She made craft items to support the work of the Bide Awhile Animal Shelter Society and the Oaklawn Farm Zoo. Her volunteer work included helping the Red Cross and the Occupational Therapy Department of the old Halifax Infirmary. She was active in the Co-Vettes, a social club for the wives of Second World War veterans attending Dalhousie University, and she was one of the last surviving members of the group in the Halifax area. Paddy is survived by her husband of 61 years, C. Keith Hoyt; daughters, Susan Pickett (Lewis), of Salisbury, N.B., and Louise Mussett (Ted) of Dartmouth; sons, Brian (Petra Rykers) of Stillwater Lake, and Allen of Montreal; grandchildren, Peter Hoyt, Johanna Hoyt, Michelle Mussett, Elliot Mussett and Jonathan Mussett; sisters, Eileen (Peter) Wilson of Yeovil, England, and Diana Humphreys of Tucson, Ariz.; brother, Ronald (Bette) Page of Brampton, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, Michael. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 9, from 2 to 4 pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax.
