John H. Storey, 85, of Plymouth Place died of complications of Parkinson’s disease Feb. 17 at Hospice Kavanagh House. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Federated Church, of which he was a member. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Storey was born in Des Moines and had lived in Greenwood, Ind., for a brief period before returning here in the 1970’s. He was a wire-photo operator with Associated Press and an operator and purchasing agent with Delavan Mfg. before retiring. He was a Navy Veteran and had served aboard the USS Alaska during World War II. He was a member of Des Moines Senior Singers. He played Santa Claus for children during Christmas at Kiwanis functions and enjoyed bowling, bicycling, camping and canoeing.
Surviving are his wife, Helen; two sons, David of Tucson, Ariz., and Dennis of Urbandale; a daughter, Kathleen Stall of Marion, Ark.; a brother Finan Gorman Storey of Chicago; and seven grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the mission fund at his church. Caldwell-Raddatz Hickman Chapel is handling arrangements.
