      Alice graduated from Santa Barbara High School and earned her teaching credentials from Santa Barbara State University (now the University of California, Santa Barbara). For 25 years, she taught elementary school, primarily as a fourth grade teacher at Chaparral Elementary School in the Claremont United Schol District. Alice loved gardening and had a garden outside her classroom where the students tended plants and ate the vegetables they raised. She had a beautiful garden at her Claremont home.
       Alice was predeceased by her first husband, Walter Kupfer. Alice married Robert Baker in 1982. They loved to travel and took many interesting trips in the U.S. and overseas. Alice had one daughter, Judy Kupfer Stevens and has one granddaughter, Valerie Palmer, who shared a birthday with her. Alice loved animals and was an excellent water color painter.
       Burial: Cremated, Ashes scattered at sea.

      Full Military Bridal Held One of the city’s first full military weddings was held in the Grace Baptist Church Friday afternoon, uniting Miss Alice Salathé Freeman. Santa Barbara, Calif., and Lt. Walter H. Kupfer, Portland, Ore, who, together with his other men attendants, only a short time before had received his commission from the United States Army Air Corps in graduation exercises at Luke Field.
       The Rev. Richard S. Beal. jr., pastor, read the service at 4 o’clock m the presence of a group of relatives and friends. Arriving in Phoenix Thursday with the bride were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Karl Freeman, Santa Barbara, her grandmother, Mrs Frederick Salathé. Los Angeles, and her sister, Mrs. Frederick Du Bois Harrison, Santa Barbara, who was her only attend, Lt Donald Byers, Santa Barbara, was Lieutenant Kupfer’s best man. Forming the archway of sabers after the exchange of vows were the ushers, Lt. George Harrington and Lt. Earl Knapp. both of Vancouver. B.C. Lt. Daniel Hogan and Lt. Randolph Soranson. both of Eugene, Ore., Lt. William Harshbarger, Santa Barbara, and Lt. Jack Hauskins, Redding, Calif.
       The bride wore a long-waisted peplum trimmed afternoon dress in black with powder blue yoke. Her black velvet toque was trimmed with a black veil and powder-blue feathers, the same color of blue being noted in her gloves. Her corsage was fashioned of a single orchid. Accenting the black dress worn by the matron of honor were red accessories. The bride’s mother and grandmother also chose black, the former’s accessories being in turquoise and the latter’s gown trimmed in sequins. Immediately after the ceremony a recept’on was held at the home of Lt Robert Thieme, assistant commandant of the cadet detachment at Luke Field, and Mrs. Thieme.
       Shortly after the reception, Lieutenant and Mrs. Kupfer left for Bakersfield, Calif., where the former has been assigned as instructor in the basic training school for the United States Air Corps. The bride attended the University of Oregon for one year and was graduated from Santa Barbara State College, she has been teaching school in El Monte, Calif. At the Oregon university she became affiliated with Gamma Phi Beta Sorority.
       Lieutenant Kupfer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl A. Kupfer. Portland. Ore., was graduated from the University of Oregon in 1940. Accepted as an aviation cadet in March 1941, he was sent to Oxnard, Calif. for his primary training. It was in Oxnard that he met his bride.
