Funeral services for Frederick Salathé Jr., trustee of Pitzer College since 1966. were held Monday in Santa Barbara. Salathé. 87, died in a hospital near his Montecito home after a brief illness.He is survived by a stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert Case of Santa Barbara. Salathé was a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and made a fortune in oil and mining. A benefactor of Pitzer College. Salathe established the Frederick Salathe Jr. Fund for Music and Cultural Arts. The most recent event was a concert by classical pianist John Perry, held the day before Salathe’s death. Salathe also funded the Salathe Atrium in McConnell Center on the Pitzer College campus. Claremont. and contributed to the Dr. Frederick Salathé Chemistry Laboratory at Harvey Mudd College.
