Thomas E. “Grampy” Ireland, 70, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 28, 2013, at a Presque Isle health care facility, after an extended illness. He was born April 19, 1942, in New Britain, Conn., the son of Almon and Eleanor (Madden) Ireland. Thomas was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1961 and served with the Maine National Guard.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ireland was predeceased by one sister, Kay Ireland. He is survived by three sons, Shawn Ireland and wife, Valerie, of Hampden, Matthew Ireland of Hermon, and Aaron Ireland of Presque Isle; four daughters, Laura Meredith and husband, Robert, of Lima, Ohio, Shelly Foran and husband, Darren, of Muniac, New Brunswick, Stacy Edgecomb, and Jessica Moirs and husband, Chuck, all of Fort Fairfield; six brothers, Philip and Robert Ireland, both of Texas, Chris Hitz-Bradley of Indiana, Scott Bradley of Freeport, David Ireland of Texas, Dana Ireland of New York; two sisters, Nancy Burns of East Machias, and Dawn Hall of Texas; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a service to celebrate Mr. Ireland’s life will be conducted 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, after the service. Interment will take place later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
