- [S4] Obituary.
Virginia Rowe Holland – August 15, 1913 – December 26, 2009 Virginia (Gini) Holland passed away peacefully on December 26, 2009 at Lawton Healthcare Center in San Francisco, California where she had resided for eight years. Gini was the first of two lovely daughters born to George Lewis and Henrietta Marie (née Franz) Rowe in Des Moines, Iowa where she and her sister were raised. After leaving Iowa State University to marry Harvison (Harvey) Catlin Holland in March of 1934, they immediately moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. In the ensuing 18 years, she and Harvey crisscrossed the United States several times as Harvey pursued his career as one of the nation’s first aeronautical engineers before, during and after the war. In 1952, Gini and Harvey purchased their first home in Santa Monica, California where they lived during the following 45 years. During those years, Gini was active in various philanthropic associations, Pi Beta Phi Sorority on the UCLA campus and the real estate industry. Harvey predeceased Gini in 1997. Gini is survived by her three sons (George, Raymond, and Steven), her daughter-in-law (Melinda), her three grand daughters (Kira, Krista, and Lisa), two grand sons (Brooks and Miles), four great grand daughters (Eva, Geneva, Karenna, and Sydney), and two great grand sons (Jordan and Ryan). Gini was a patient and caring woman who will be missed greatly by all who were privileged to know her. Her ashes are being scattered over the Pacific Ocean (as were those of her beloved husband of 63 years) by the Neptune Society of Northern California at the Columbarium.
