ROSE ABBY BRUNS Funeral services for Rose Abby Bruns, 99, of Ocheyedan were held Mar. 20, at the United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan, with Rev. Paul Frederickson officiating, interment was at the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery, in Ocheyedan. Arrangements were under the direction of Andringa Funeral Home of Sibley and Ocheyedan.
Rose, daughter of Frank and Mary (VanCleve) Boyd, was born Nov. 30, 1902 in Ocheyedan, where she lived her youth and attended school. She graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1921. She attended teachers training at Ceder Falls. She taught at country school by May City, and later east and west of Ocheyedan.
In 1925, she married Eddie F. Bruns. Rose began her twenty-five year career with the US Post Office in 1942, and retired in 1967. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan since May 30, 1914. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for fifty years.
Rose will be remembered as a grand old lady. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghans, and gave many away. She was an avid reader and a big sports fan. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and driver her light blue Ford Falcon.
In Sept. of 1999, Rose became a resident of the Lake Park Care Center, where she passed away on Sunday, Mar. 17.
Those left to cherish Rose in memories is her son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Joyce Bruns of Des Plaines, IL; 2 grandchildren: David Bruns of Elk Grove, IL, and Jennifer and her husband Robert Barnes, and one great grandson: Matthew Barnes all of Algonquin, IL; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and their families who all have enjoyeds keeping in touch with her through the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Ruth Worrick and Bertha Winkel; one brother: Robert Boyd and his son Jim Boyd; one grandson Frank Bruns.
