COLUMBIANA – Memorial services will be held at a later date for
Clarence H. “Pete” Wining age 80 of Columbiana who died Thursday afternoon at Alliance Community Hospital. Pete was born October 7, 1930 in Columbiana, the son of Clarence and Elma Breyer Wining. After graduating from Columbiana High School, he served in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean War. After the service he worked at his families business Wining Cylinder and Grinding in Columbiana. He later worked at the General Motors Lordstown plant as a machinist for 17 years before becoming disabled.
Pete was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge in E. Palestine and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Lisbon. Pete is remembered for the love he had for spending time with his son and family. He enjoyed trips to the Outer Banks, playing cards, fishing and playing the organ. He was also a talented artist and carpenter. He had built his own home and had assisted many others in the construction of their homes.
Pete is survived by his best friend whom he married on January 21, 1956 the former Marlene Whitehead, his son Willis Lee Wining of Lisbon, a sister, Betty Wright of Florida, four special friends; Phyllis Keylor, Bob Coltz and his Godchildren, Tammy and Corey Stull. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Hank Wining and two sisters; Evelyn Brittain and Nellie Whinnery.
Pete’s family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to either Grace Lutheran Church of Hospice of Alliance in his memory. Professional arrangements are by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
