      Madawaska Lake — Beatrice S. Harpine, 97, died September 15, 2020, at Caribou. She was born January 11, 1923, in Mars Hill, the daughter of Clarence and Hazel (Rundstrom) Smith.
       She graduated from Aroostook Central Institute in Mars Hill, Westbrook Junior College in Portland, and Bryant and Stratton in Boston, earning National Honor Society and Citizenship Awards. While pursuing her education, she worked at Presque Isle Sub Depot, where she met and married David H. Harpine, Jr. from Harrisonburg, VA.
       After completing Air Force assignments, they settled in Mars Hill, where she owned and operated Bea’s Dress Shop, later opening branches in Caribou and Fort Fairfield. Her special interests included fashion, landscaping, flowers, hunting, fishing, and playing bridge into her 90’s. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stockholm and was a lifetime member of the Mayflower Society.
       She is survived by a daughter in law, Pamela Harpine of Madawaska Lake, granddaughters, Mackenzie Harpine of Boston, Heather Mladek of Stockholm, and Mindy Anders of Bucksport, a grandson, Kyle Harpine of Stockholm, a nephew, Bernard Smith of Oregon, nieces, Judy Landkamer, Jane Hathaway, and Barbara Ann Collins, all of Arizona, special friends, Carol Harpine of Saco, and Glenda Barnes of Fort Fairfield, five great-grandsons, Richie, Stephen, Henry, Benny, and Willy, and a great-granddaughter, Addilyn. Mrs. Harpine was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Lt. (Ret.) Bernard Smith, US Army, her husband, Major (Ret.) David Harpine, USAF, and her sons, David H. Harpine and Roger Harpine.
       Private family services for Beatrice and her son, David, will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou. Those who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Harpine may do so through the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 24 Cross Street, Presque Isle, Maine 04769. Arrangements by Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.
