GROTON – Dolores “Dee” Dyer (Holland) Swindell, 71, passed peacefully from life on July 5, 2007, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.She was born in Indianapolis, on Oct. 20, 1935, the only child of Earle Rupert Holland and Ada (Rubush) Holland, both of whom predeceased her.  She was married in Dallas, Tex., to Archie C. Swindell, on Dec. 28, 1962, who survives her. She is also survived by her two sons and their wives and children, Shinobu S. and Matthew E. Swindell of Braintree, Mass., and their sons, Marcus and Lucas, and Louise P. and Randy Z. Swindell of Harrington, Maine, and Randy’s daughter, Jessica, of Groton.  Dee retired from Groton Public Schools in 1995, after 25 years as a media specialist in Northeast, Noank, and West Side schools. She and Arch moved to Connecticut in 1970, and prior to that lived in Durham, N.C., and Ithaca, N.Y. Dee grew up in Indiana, in Minden, La., where she graduated from high school, and in Dallas.  She graduated from Southern Methodist University earning a bachelor of science degree in geology in 1957. She was a technical librarian at Sun Oil Company in Richardson, Tex., where she and Arch met. Her education included the University of North Carolina earning a master’s degree in library science in 1970, Southern Connecticut State University with an educational supervision certificate in 1987, and Johnson & Wales University with a master of science degree in computer education in 1990.  Dee will be remembered as loyal to her many friends, as a proud grandmother, and as staunch supporter of her husband. She received many honors and appointments during her life and has been listed in Who’s Who in American Education.  Dee’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, at Old Lyme Congregational Church, Lyme St. and Ferry Road in Old Lyme. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Groton Scholarship Fund, Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, 101 Groton Long Point Road, Groton CT 06340.
