Mary Helen Holland, 100, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015. She was born March 4, 1915, in Decatur, Iowa, and was raised in Clear Lake, Iowa. Mary Helen came to Port Charlotte with her husband King Holland in 1971 from Arlington, Va., after moving around the world with him during his 30-year career in the Air Force. While she was an Air Force wife, she was also a librarian in Hawaii for the Air Force and Pearl Harbor libraries, and in Washington, D.C., for the Army and Navy libraries. After retiring to Port Charlotte, Mary Helen was the reference and assistant librarian at the Port Charlotte Library. She was a leader of the organ/piano group at the Cultural Center of Charlotte County in Port Charlotte. She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Blake of Port Charlotte; and grandchildren, Canaan (Jocelin) Blake, Kelly (Kevin) Bos, Courtney (Iven) Sugai and Amy Stumbo (Jason Burge). Mary Helen also was proud to be a great-grandma to McKenzie, Kawena, Kanoa and Hoku. She was preceded in death by her husband, King Holland; and daughter, Judi Stumbo. Services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Tidewell Hospice Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte.
