At the Ridgewood Veterans Wing, the passing of Mrs.
Mary Patricia (Callaghan) McAllaster RN formerly of Orange Street, wife of the late Kenneth A. McAllister, occurred on Friday September 2, 2005 at her residence. Born in Saint John, NB., she was a daughter of the late Leo F. and Winnifred (Hayes) Callaghan. Mary is survived by her loving daughter Patricia Kiely (Patrick) of Caledonia, ON, beloved grandchildren Kate and Stephen, sister Margaret Reid of Miramichi City, NB, several nieces and nephews, especially John Callaghan and Mary Doherty. She was predeceased by a brother Frank “Andy” and a sister Anne Marie Lindsey. Mary graduated from St. Vincent’s High School in 1933 and Saint John General School of Nursing in 1937. She went to Yonkers, NY where she worked until joining the army in 1944 as a member of the Royal Canadian Medical Corp. After the war she came home to Saint John to nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she worked for 20 years retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Royal Service Institute of New Brunswick; North Nova Scotia Highlanders Memory Club; Legion of Mary; Cathedral C.W.L.; St. Vincent’s Alumnae and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 58. Mary spent 12 years as a nurse at our Lady’s Camp, Chapel Grove.
Resting at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street with visiting on Sunday, September 3, 2005 7 to 9 pm and Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment will take place in the Field of Honour in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Mary’s memory to Romero House-Soup Kitchen; C.N.I.B.; or Hospice of Saint John would be appreciated by the family. A Royal Canadian Legion Service will be held Monday evening at 7 pm.
