DOBSON, JAMES E. – It is with great sadness that the family of
James Edgar Dobson announce his passing. Following his final wish, he peacefully passed on Saturday November 26, 2005 surrounded by his loving wife of 60 years, his children and grandchildren, at his home 65 Aspen Street. Born in Albert County N.B. Oct 17 1914, he was the youngest and last surviving member of his immediate family. Son of the late Noble G. Dobson and Margaret M (Crossman) Dobson. His business ventures included Jim’s Lunch, Jim’s Garage, Dobson-Friars Trucking, Speedway Transport, but he was best known as the founder and owner of M & D Transfer Ltd., which he ran until his retirement in 1970. He took great pride in working with his family in Leisure Time Sales Ltd., P’s & J’s Children’s Wear Ltd., Dobson Chrysler Dodge Jeep, R.V. World, Norrad Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Dobson Collision Centre. He was a founding member of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association. He was an adherent of Glen View United Church a member of the Glen View Men’s Club, McAllister Place Walking Club and the CNR Bowling League. He spent his leisure time at his cottage on the Bellisle Bay and when able in his wood working shop. His greatest joys in life were his treasured grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Jean G. (MacPherson) Dobson, five sons, Jamie (June), Paul (Sandy), David (Terri), Danny (Rose), Derek (Kelly), five daughters, Mary Lee McMillan (John/Jack), Peggy Stiles (Vern), Judy Connell (Wayne) Pamie Shonaman (Daryl), Debra Armstrong (Joe), and 22 grandchildren, Kevin Dobson (Pam), Kelly Dobson (Kim), Kurt Dobson (Heather), Stephen Dobson, Cheri Lumsden (Glen), VeeJay Stiles, Andrea Organ (Chris), Beth Stiles, Bradley Connell, Robyn Connell, Mandi Pitman (Danny), Ryan Shonaman (Johanna), Ashley Shonaman, Luanne Dobson, Hailey Dobson, Kenneth Dobson, Erin Dobson, Katharine Armstrong, Geoffrey Armstrong, Jenna Dobson, Gillian Dobson, Gregor Dobson, Grand daughter in-law Tana McMillan, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, special family friend Ruth Cavanagh, and special dog friend Taffy.
Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by brother George, sisters Edna Mason and Alice Baird, Grand Daughter Lori Dobson and Grandson John T McMillan Jr.
Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at 11:00 am, from Glen View United Church. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery.
