ORANGE — Donald J. Chicoine, 70, of 200 East River Street, Orange, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at UMASS Medical Center in Worcester after being stricken ill on Saturday. He was born in Gardner, on June 7, 1937, the son of the late Alfred E. and Leona (Landry) Chicoine. Don grew up working on the family dairy farm in Gardner, and then proceeded to become the owner of Chicoine Construction Company, also located in Gardner. In his earlier years, he enjoyed flying, camping and reading. He loved his family very much. He leaves one daughter, Monique Akey of Athol; two sons, Alan Chicoine of Phillipston and Leo Chicoine of Athol; three stepdaughters, Abigail Sargent of North Fort Myers, FL, Deborah Meunier of Templeton and Heather Gauthier of Barre; two stepsons, Bruce Boutall of Orange and Gordon Ganson of Petersham; two sisters, Marie Guerrin of Athol and Leonette Courtemanche of Grand Island, FL; fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife, F.E. Ann (May)(Boutall)(Ganson) Chicoine, a brother, Leo Chicoine and a sister, Leona (Chicoine) Meunier. Donald will be cremated and no formal services will be observed at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Athol Area United Way, 545 Main St., Athol, Ma. 01331.
