Virginia Leona Coes passed away at 73 years of age in Edson, AB. after a heart wrenching battle with Alzheimer’s. Virginia was born Aug 17, 1949, to Joseph and Mabel Gates in Lacombe, AB. Virginia took an accounting course at the Kelowna college and a ministry course at St. Joseph’s University, which she used to teach the pilgrims guide at the Sacred Heart Parish. Many remember Virginia from her many years as Stedman’s Store Manager and as the Royal Canadian Legion Padre. Virginia was a awarded the provincial volunteer of the year award for her work in starting up the northern Alberta Brain Injury Society, the Adult Day Program and her volunteer time at many clubs and sports clubs such as Catholic Women’s League, Lioness Club, Lions Club, Girl Guides of Canada. Virginia is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Mabel Gates, sister Louise, brother Edward Gates, son in laws Randy Anguish and Kirk Bagstad. Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Walter Coes, daughters Kelly Coes (Randy), Tina Dale, Tansy Coes (Kirk), sons Wesley Coes, Robert Coes, grandchildren Dave (Aleisha), Tim Dale (Kandas), Joey, Byron (Laura), Kelly, Dallas, Kehler, Kooper, Sienna, Tiffany, Laticia, Isiah, Shenisha, Kianna, great grandchildren Talon, Aubrey, Layla, Aryella, Aiden, Cassia, Lilianna, Aurora, Tayla and Brody, sisters Edith Robertson, Eleanor Allen, brothers Robert Gates, Dave Gates and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held May 26, 2023, at the Sacred Heart Parish Catholic Church in Edson, AB. at 1:00 PM. A late lunch will follow in the church basement. In lieu of flowers donations may be offered to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta & Northwest Territories online or by mail.
