Laurie Edward Fulton – 75, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday morning, January 7, 2017, at The Mira Long Term Care Facility, Truro. He was a son of the late Neil and Evelyn (Wood) Fulton.
Born in Truro with his twin sister, Laurel, they lived in Stewiacke for the first five years, and then the family moved to Amherst where Laurie attended school until his graduation from Amherst High School. He then attended Provincial Normal College in Truro from 1959-1961, graduating in Industrial Arts and received the coveted "Silver N" award. He taught at Amherst Regional High School for 16 years before moving to Truro where he spent several years working at Home Hardware on Willow Street. Moving to Truro meant that he was close to the family’s beloved cottage at Shortts Lake. Laurie loved music and during his early years played the violin while Laurel played the piano.
He was a member of Saint Andrew’s United Church and a former member of Session. He sang for many years with Trinity-St. Stephen’s Choir in Amherst, Cantabile choir, Saint Andrew’s Senior and Men’s choirs and The Forefathers Four Quartet.
Laurie is survived by his loving wife, Mildred; much loved daughters, Karen (Kevin) McDonah, Truro; Heather Fulton (Bob Gamble), Brookfield; grandsons, Aidan, Luke and Neil McDonah, whom he loved dearly; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Judy Brown, Winnipeg; niece, Anne Koldon; nephews, Jim and Mike Brown and Alexander and Nathaniel Fulton; several cousins. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his twin sister, Laurel Fulton; brother, Albert (Emily) Fulton. Laurie’s family would like to thank the staff at The Mira for their wonderful care, love and support.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Laurie’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2017, Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017, in Saint Andrew’s United Church, 55 King Street, Truro. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, East Stewiacke. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Laurie’s memory to Saint Andrew’s United Church (Choir Fund) are welcomed.
