      The death of Mildred Osborne (Chase) Patterson, occurred at the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home on Monday, May 26, 2003, following a lengthy illness. Born in Saint John on March 5, 1910, daughter of the late Walter Wheeler Chase and Helen Maude (McArthur) Chase. Predeceased by husband, Donald David Patterson in 1972.
       Mildred was educated in Saint John and graduated from Mt. Allison University in 1930. She worked in the Advertising Department of Manchester Robertson Allison for a number of years and always took an active interest in the arts. She was active in sports and the community. She held various positions over the years at the St. Andrews Curling Club, the Riverside Curling Club, the Westfield Golf and Country Club, the I.O.D.E (Lady Moyra Ponsonby), the Union Club, Meals-on-Wheels and St. Andrew’s and St. David’s United Church. In the mid 1970’s, she established the Donald D. Patterson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Mt. Allison University, which financially assisted many Commerce and Fine Arts students over the past 25 years.
       She is survived by her three sons, Dr. William H. Patterson and his wife, Carol of Saint John, Douglas R. Patterson and Donald W. Patterson both of Grand Bay-Westfield, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth McArthur Skinner of Saint John, six grandchildren, Dr. Leslie Patterson, Lisa (Patterson) Khanna, Jeffrey Patterson, Jennifer Patterson, Heather Patterson and Andrea Patterson, and one niece, Ceretha (Patterson) Karolyi of Winchester Virginia.
       Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday 7-9 PM and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, on Thursday, May 29, 2003 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Donald D. Patterson Memorial Fund, the Church of St. Andrew and St. David or the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
