Allan Archibald Hodgson passed away peacefully in London, England on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.
Allan was born in Montreal, Quebec on October 13, 1937 to Jonathan Archibald and Anne Churchill Hodgson. He attended Lower Canada College in Montreal and then went on to McGill University, graduating in 1958.
Allan lived in the Westmount neighborhood of Montreal throughout his early career. Initially he worked alongside his father at C.J. Hodgson & Sons, a Montreal based stock brokerage. He then joined Alcan Aluminium Limited in the late 60’s and remained
with the company until his retirement. Over the course of his career, Allan specialized in finance and treasury operations. In the 1970’s he was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Alcan India and, along with his family, spent five years living in Calcutta. In 1982, Allan was appointed Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the parent company working from the Head Office in Montreal. He retired in 1993 and took up permanent residence in London, England.
In the years since moving to London, Allan consulted for the Sultanate of Oman and spent several years living in Oman. He maintained an active role as a Trustee and Board member at World Learning. He nurtured his longstanding relationship with McGill University by establishing the ’Allan A. Hodgson Arts Internship Award,’ a scholarship established to help students enrolled in the Summer Internship Program.
Allan is survived by his longtime partner, Ian (of London, England); his children, Lucinda (of Mahtomedi, MN), Jonathan (of Cambridge, MA), and Anne (of Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec); his 6 grandchildren, Tristan, Merit, Adair, Griffin, Kaius and Rosie; and his siblings. Joanne Locke Kronlachner and Charles Jonathan Hodgson (both of Toronto, Ontario), and David Churchill Hodgson (of Morin Heights, Quebec).
Services to be held on February 17th at Mortlake Crematorium in London, UK.
