Coffman, Dean William 81, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away at home on January 18, 2011 surrounded by his family.
Son of Willis and Ruth (Hicks) Coffman, born March 21, 1929 in Polo, Illinois. He moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1936 and later attended Phoenix Union High School where he met Helen Maude Barnett and married July 7, 1948. Dean’s career began in 1946 while still a junior in high school. He went to work for Architects Harry Herrsher, Mel Ensign and later Ralph Haver. Winning many architectural awards, Dean started his own company in 1950 after turning down an internship studying under Frank Lloyd Wright. He built commercially statewide and specialized in fine custom homes in and around the north Scottsdale area. He just recently retired at the age of 81. Dean had a great love of the outdoors where he was an avid fisherman and big game hunter. He shared these activities with his family and friends. He loved traveling and exploring other cultures. He traveled frequently to Mexico where he fell in love with the people, culture, food and music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother Don.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; his brother, Virgil; his son’s, Gary, Denny, Rick, Randy, Jeff and his daughter, Deana; his grandchildren, Dawna, Jason, Dale, Pamela, Samantha, Kaela, Logan, Taylor; his great-grandchildren, Danesha, Karissa, Madison, Desiree, Cash and Stella.
Visitation will be held at Messinger Mortuary 7601 E. Indian School Rd Scottsdale AZ on Sunday January 23, 2011 from 4PM - 7PM for family and 5PM-7PM for friends. Service will begin on Monday January 24, 2011 at 11AM at the same location. Internment will follow at Paradise Memorial Gardens at 9300 E. Shea Blvd Scottsdale AZ, then a gathering at the family home. The family wish is in lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice of the Valley

Mrs. Maude Barnett yesterday announced the betrothal of her daughter. Miss Helen Maude Barnett, to Dean William Coffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Coffman. The principals are native Phoenicians. Miss Barnett’s father is the late Rial Barnett. The prospective bridegroom is studying architecture at Phoenix College. No date has been set for the nuptials.
