      Fred Wheat, 81, Dies After Crash MORAVIA — Fred A. Wheat, 81, a Moravia businessman and banker, died Thursday at State University Hospital, Syracuse, as the result of injuries suffered in a two-car accident on Oct. 23 on Moravia-Cortland Road in Tompkins County.
       Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Wade Funeral Home. Masonic services will be at 6:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Fred Wheat Memorial Education Fund, in care of the First National Bank of Moravia.
       Mr. Wheat was born in Scipio. He spent most of his life in Moravia and owned and operated Wheat Brothers Inc., dealers in feed, grain, lumber and farm supplies. A veteran of World War 1, Mr. Wheat served overseas in the Army Signal Corps and was a member of the Rowe-Churchill American Legion Post.
       He was chairman of the board of directors of the First National Bank in Moravia and a member of the Board of Directors of the State Bean Shippers Association. Mr. Wheat was a past president of the Cayuga County Boy Scout Council and was active in the American Field Service. He was a member of Sylvan Masonic Lodge, Moravia Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
       Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Esther Brown Wheat; a son, Frederick T. Wheat of Moravia; two daughters, Mrs. George McKay of Moravia, and Mrs. James Watson of Witchita Falls, Tex., five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Frank Cooper of Plattsburgh, and four nephews.
