J. Dalton Couig, Jr., 90, a resident of Pittsfield, Massachusetts since 1965, passed away on Saturday, May 12, with family at his bedside, at Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The cause of death was a heart attack and congestive heart failure.
The son of the late John "Jack" Dalton Couig, Sr. and Dorothy Brassil Couig, he graduated from Scarsdale High School, Scarsdale, NY in 1945, enlisted in the United States Army and served as a private until 1946. He held degrees from the University of Virginia and Pepperdine University.
Working as a chemist at the start of his career, he then moved into computers and telecommunications. He retired from Hughes Aircraft Corporation in 1987.
His wife of 40 years, Patricia Mae Brumgard Couig, predeceased him in 1995.
He leaves behind seven children: Mary Pat Couig (Merton Smith) of Chevy Chase, MD; John D. Couig III (Susan Skelding Couig) of Redondo Beach, CA; Christopher D. Couig and Catherine P. Couig of Pittsfield, MA; Lisa M. Couig of Dalton, MA; Caroline E. Couig (Bradley E. Clift) of Wethersfield, CT and Stephen P. Couig (Iovanna Lopez Couig) of Irvine, CA. He leaves 9 grandchildren; Vince and Madeline Smith; Chase, Cooper and Logan Couig; Beckett John Couig Brzezinski; Spencer, Czarina and Sebastian Couig and step- grandson Spencer J. Clift. He also leaves a brother, Donald Couig (Linda) of Greenwich, CT and a sister Joan Couig Armstrong (Robert) of Talbott, TN.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 20, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Wellington Funeral Home, 220 East Street, Pittsfield, MA. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, June 21 at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, 134 Main St, Lenox, MA. Father Christopher Malatesta from St. Agnes in Dalton will be the officiant. Interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, 1 Ore Bed Rd, Lenox, MA. After the interment, a reception will take place at St. Ann’s Family Center.

Couig — Brumgard
The engagement of Miss Patricia Mae Brumgard to J. Dalton Couig Jr., son of Mr. and MRs. Couig of 35 Graham Road, Scarsdale, has been announced by the bride-elect’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Newton Donald Brumgard of San Fernando, Calif., and Washington, D. C.
Miss Brumgard was graduated from Valley Junior College and attended the University of California. She is with United Air Lines in New York as a flight stewardess. Mr. Couig is a graduate of the University of Virginia where he was elected to Phi Delta Theta. He is with the Shell Chemical Corporation in Newark, N. J.
