Gilbert A. Dollar, age 90, of Port Orange, FL passed away suddenly December 23, 2010. He is survived by his two daughters: Cathy Dollar Lindstrom (George), Debbie Dollar Daraio (Colin); three grand-children: Heather Mikles (Mark), Eric Lindstrom (Erin), Erin Craig (Colin); six great-grandchildren: Chloe & Brooke Mikles, Kate & Andrew Lindstrom, Callie & Leah Craig.
Gil was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eleanor and son, Gilbert Dollar, Jr.
Gil grew up in Hudson, NY, however, he spent most of his life in Vernon, NJ prior to moving to Daytona Beach area in 1977 where he mostly resided in LaCosta Village in Port Orange, FL. Gil spent his early years as an escavating contractor and later became a land developer owning both Vernon Valley Lake and Mayflower Estates. He was an avid NASCAR fan having owned his own stock car for many years. Gil was a member of the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theater during Wold War II. Gil had a host of friends whom he enjoyed immensely and liked nothing better than to visit with them.
Cremation has already taken place. There will be a Remembrance Event on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 1 p.m. at LaCosta Clubhouse in Port Orange, FL where friends are invited to attend. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the of Central and North Florida, 4237 Salisbury Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32216, due to the fact his loving wife, Eleanor, whom Gil missed dearly, died from this disease.
