Steve Marshall Smith owner of the Rhodes Pharmacy for the past 19 years passed away at his home at 4 a.m. Wednesday morning folllowing a week’s illness. Death was due tu cardiac asthma. Mr. Smith was born Nov. 2, 1880, in Illinois, a son of William and Antoinette Smith and moved to Iowa with his parents when two years old. His father died in 1890. He was married to Miss Katherine Wood Nov. 14, 1906 at Gloversville, N. Y. They moved to Grimes where they owned a drug store for a few years, and then moved to their farm at Battle Lake, Minn. where they lived five years before coming to Rhodes. Besides operating the Rhodes Pharmacy, he and his son William have operated the Silver Tip Fox ranch here. Those who survive are his widow and son, and daughter Catherine at home, his aged mother Mrs. Henry J. Miller and stepfather, both of Des Moines. He is a member of Eden Lodge No. 466 A. F. & A. M. at Rhodes.
Funeral services were held from the M. E. church at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. E. A. Cochell. Pallbearers were, Leo Perry, Wayne Hildreth, Wilmur Williams, Harry Robinson, Ralph Buck and Luther Hix. Masonic services were held at Eden Cemetery in charge of William Heintz. Present from away were Mrs. Miller, Mr. Rowe and Miss Jacqueline Huff, of Des Moines and Mrs. Louie Nichols of Clemons and Leo Perry of Mitchellville.
