Matthews, Arnold McCully, Wellington, ON. On the morning of August 6, 2019 in his 93rd year Arnold McCully Matthews peacefully said his final goodnight surrounded by family. Arnold retired from John Deere in 1987 as a Pattern Maker after a noble 39 years of service. His retirement consisted of travelling to warmer climates with his beloved wife of 68 years, enjoying a good meal with family, appreciating a strong drink with friends, playing a competitive golf game with his son and curling during the winter months.
Known as an honourable "papa", he proudly leaves behind his son Ronald Matthews (Wendy), granddaughter Katlee (Ivan), grandson Shawn (Shelley) and great grandchild Jack.
Reunited with his wife (Esther Matthews nee Purdy), daughter (Judith Bradley nee Matthews) parents (Earl and Iola Matthews) and siblings (Alfred, Chesley, Irene, Beatrice and Fern).
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. A graveside service will be held 12 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Terrace Hill Cemetery, Truro, with The Reverend Lori Ramsey officiating. A celebration of Arnold’s life will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 106 Debert, 1252 Masstown Road Debert from 2-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Hospice Niagara.
