    1. [S4] Obituary.
IRVINE, Lewis Burton “Papa” — Age 92. It is with great sadness that we announce Dad’s passing, on December 17, 2022, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Waterville, Kings Co, on November 21, 1930, he was a son of the late Frederick William Payzant Irvine and Elsie Tupper (Murphy) Irvine.
Mourning his loss is his loving wife of 68 years Lillian Joyce (Chute) Irvine; along with son, Brian Chute Irvine; daughter, Brenda Dale Irvine Simpson; and his three beloved grandchildren, Andrew (Elise), David (Jen) and Caroline Simpson; as well as his five cherished great grandchildren, Ansel, Lillian, Alfred, Aurora, and Etta.
Lewis was a graduate of Mack Business College, Kentville and was hired by R.A. Jodrey in accounting for the Minas Basin Pulp and Power to which he was devoted to for 43 years until retirement. He was a member of Hantsport Baptist Church and a proud member of Hantsport Volunteer Fire Department, with 30 years of service. He worked tirelessly with the department. Among many other duties, he drove the ambulance and acted as treasurer. Safety was paramount for Dad. Growing up on the family farm in Grafton left him a love of gardening that remained a lifelong passion. Growing vegetables in the backyard and having a selection of five on our plate every dinner time was one of his gifts to us. In retirement Dad began to walk for his health. He could be found on any of several routes twice every day, including holidays. He loved every part of this, especially waving to folks and reporting back the sights. Lewis remained very close to his siblings and families. On the weekends, going to Berwick to visit was routine.
Surviving are his sisters-in-law, Shirley Marie (Chute) Irvine and Inez (Nauss) Chute; nephews, Randy Irvine and Gordon Chute, nieces, Sheila (Irvine) Veinotte, Wanda (Irvine) McGillivrary, and Kathryn (Chute) Morse; great nephews, Jason, Bradley, Joseph, Mitchell, Lee, Jeffrey, Nathan, and Jason; great nieces, Kassey, Erin, Jennifer, and Joselyn; and a growing list of great great nieces and nephews. Lewis was predeceased by son, Gregory Lewis Irvine; aunt, Frena Marie Irvine; sisters, Doris Helen Irvine and Jean Marie Irvine; brothers, Ronald Dean and Bernard Kenneth Irvine; brother-in-law Lewis Chute.
We want to thank the paramedics, the stroke team, the emergency department and all staff of the Valley Regional for the care and respect for Dad and for our family during these few difficult days. “Lew” was loved and cared for like family when he and “Lil” moved to Orchard Villa 244 Commercial Street Berwick, in June 2019. Thank you with all our hearts Kara and John and everyone at the house. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448, with service and interment at a later date in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. Memorial donations may be made in Lew’s memory to the Hantsport Volunteer Fire Department, the Hantsport Food Bank, or the Hantsport Baptist Church.
