Byron S. Grammes Jr., 79, of 513 Gordon Ave., Narberth, Montgomery, formerly of 434 N. Leh St., Allentown, died Sunday in Lankenau Hospital, Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery County. His wife, Dorothy H. (Blaker) Grammes, died two weeks after they observed their 60th wedding anniversary in October.
Grammes was assistant to the construction manager of the Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. when he retired in 1969 after 49 years’ service. He previously was assistant to PP&L’s construction superintendent, and an auditor and cashier in the construction department. He started his career as a cost engineer for the former Phoenix Utility, which did much of the early construction for PP&L.
Born in New Hope, Bucks, he was a son of the late Byron S. Sr. and Sadie S. (Wert) Grammes. He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, Allentown. He was a past president, past first vice president and past second vice president of the Lehigh Valley Club, Allentown.
Surviving are a granddaughter, Sharon D., wife of Bruce A. Flinn, with whom he resided; a sister, Mrs. Mildred A. Feinour of Emmaus; two other granddaughters and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by a son Theodore and a daughter, Mrs. Lucille Dollar.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 Highland St., Allentown. A calling hour will precede the services.
