LARNED –
Edward Boyd passed away Sunday morning August 23, 2009 at Aberdeen Heights Assisted Living Center in Tulsa Oklahoma, in the presence of his wife and children, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born January 31, 1926 at Larned Kansas, the son of Louis Melvin Boyd and Fawney May (Myers) Boyd.
A lifelong Pawnee County Kansas resident, Mr. Boyd attended Larned public schools and, after graduation, proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. Edward then attended Southwestern University in Winfield Kansas and Kansas State University, graduating with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He was a successful farmer stockman and a 5-term (10 years) state representative, in Topeka, for the 114th district serving for a time, as Speaker Pro-tempore of the House of Representatives. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Larned, a member of the Black Heritage Society, the Masonic Lodge (recently receiving his 60 year membership pin), the American Legion, the Jordan Foundation board and was a board member of the Santa Fe Trail Center Association, serving one term as President. He lead a hard working life and yet found time to share a variety of interests with family and friends such as fishing in Colorado, singing in the church choir for many years, serving on numerous community and church boards and becoming a pilot. He loved his family, his church, his community, his state and his country and will be greatly missed.
He leaves behind a loving and grateful family: Wife Janice, Tulsa; a daughter Heather Graham and her husband Patrick and their two sons Jesse and Joshua all of Tulsa Oklahoma and a son; Bruce Boyd of Hutchinson Kansas. He is also survived by two loving sisters Lois Samuelson of Moscow Idaho and Alice Robbins of Cincinnati Ohio and several nieces and nephews and their families.
