      BUXTON — Dora E. Appleby, 94, of Chicopee Road died Sept. 8, 2001, at a Portland hospital.
       She was born in Buxton, a daughter of Wilbur G. and Eva R. Emery York, and attended local schools. When she was in grammar school, she and her brother cut down a tree, twitched it out of the woods with a team of oxen and set it up as the school’s flagpole, her family said. Mrs. Appleby was a homemaker all her life. Although she never had children of her own, she cared for 25 foster children over the years. …
