BUXTON —
Loraine H. York, 90, of Chicopee Road, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at her son Stephen’s residence. She was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Buxton, the daughter of Dimon and Dora Harriman Emmons. Loraine graduated in 1936 from Samuel D. Hanson High School. She was a homemaker throughout her life. Loraine loved and wrote poetry and enjoyed Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Loraine took pleasure in caring for people especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening, flowers, walking and riding motorcycles up to the age of 90. She was predeceased by her husband, Ira G. York; as well as her first child; and her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her sons, Stephen I. York of Buxton, Dana A. York of South Portland, Galen M. York of Brunswick, Timothy G. York of Gorham and Matthew D. York of Saco and a daughter, Geneva L. Halliday of Florida; 25 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 26, at the Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the chapel on Wednesday, May 27, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Buxton.
