      George M. Clagett, Jr., 94, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD.
       Born on January 14, 1923, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late George M. and Evelyn M. (Clagett) Clagett. His wife, Ionia Clagett, of 65 years at the time of her passing, preceded him in death April 11, 2009.
       He was a graduate of Calvin Coolidge High School in Washington, D.C. and also attended Columbia Technical School, also in D.C. He was employed with the IRS for awhile before landing a job with the U. S. Department of State, in DC. He was an avid Washington Nationals baseball fan and prior to that was a Washington Senators fan. He also was an avid bowler for several decades and enjoyed gardening, cars, tinkering in his garage/workshop when he was able to in prior years and loved his great grandson and granddaughter.
       He is survived by daughters, Vicki Clagett of Mt. Airy and Terry Buckler of Damascus; granddaughter, Debbie Comer of Mt. Airy; great-grandson, Brandon Comer of Damascus; and several cousins.
       The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd. Mount Airy, MD 21771 on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A celebration of George’s life journey will follow at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Bill Cochran will officiate. Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Park in Rockville, MD. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a contribution be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311.
