Judith Ann (Folk) Sheriff was born July 15, 1937, the daughter of Clair Albert and Ellen Grace (Poffenberger) Folk in Des Moines, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013, at the Winterset Care Center North in Winterset, Iowa, at the age of 75. Judy was raised in the Grimes and Adel area and graduated from Adel High School in 1955. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls where she received her teaching certificate in 1958. Following graduation, Judy moved to Greenfield and taught 5th grade at the Greenfield Elementary School from 1958 to 1962. On June 19, 1960, she was united in marriage to Wendell Sheriff in the Christian Church in Adel, Iowa. To this union two children were born: Susanne and Jim. After raising her children she continued her education, receiving a Bachelor of Science in education with a reading endorsement on August 11, 1984 from Drake University. Judy then worked as a counselor and manager for New Horizons/West Central Mental Health Center in Adel for 15 years. She was a member of the Greenfield United Methodist Church, where she taught in the kindergarten 5 year old room for 27 years, assisted with the Inn Gathering for 25 years and helped with Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, reading, genealogy, crafts and scenic rides. She was also a Girl Scout and 4-H leader. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Nadine Ashmore. She is survived by her husband, Wendell Sheriff of Greenfield; daughter, Susanne Sheriff of Greenfield; son, Jim Sheriff of Greenfield; two grandchildren, Alexis and Trenten Sheriff; brother, Don Folk of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
