Doyle Denton Fleishman
Dallas Center — Doyle passed from this life in the presence of his family at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines on Thursday, August 16, 2012. He was 88 years of age.
Doyle was born to Dewey Denton and Dessie Fleda Myers Fleishman October 13, 1923 in Dayton, VA. Doyle moved with his family from Cushing, Oklahoma in the winter of 1935 to Dallas Center, IA where his father was assigned as the new minister at the Dallas Center Church of the Brethren. Doyle graduated from Dallas Center High School in 1942. After High School, Doyle enlisted in the U.S. Navy. On December 6th, 1944 while on leave, he married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Ann Rowe in Chicago officiated by his father. He then went on to serve his country in the Pacific Theatre as an LST navigator. After discharge from the Navy in 1946, Doyle enrolled at Drake University and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education and would later receive his master’s degree. Doyle and Phyllis moved to the family farm in 1947 northeast of Minburn where they started farming. In addition to farming, Doyle began teaching in the Granger school district in 1957. He would later become an administrator in the Woodward-Granger school system until he retired in 1986. During that time, they moved to their Dallas Center home in 1981 where he continued to care for his wife, Phyllis. Doyle also pursued his woodworking hobby, helped on the farm, and did quite a bit of traveling in his "retirement".
Doyle is survived by his children, Charles (Sheila) of Round Rock, TX, Wayne (Kathy) of Carlisle, and Craig (Debra) of Minburn; his second mother, Grace of Bridgewater, VA; sisters, Melva Restuccia of Bridgewater, VA and Linda Barnett of Tempe, AZ; brothers, Allen Fleishman of Harrisonburg, VA, Stuart Fleishman of Gaithersburg, MD and John Fleishman of Dayton, VA; grandchildren, Garrett Fleishman of Oswego, IL, Elizabeth Fleishman of Round Rock, TX, Aaron Fleishman (Lisa) of Carlisle, Brenna Johnson (Dave) of Addison, IL, Abby Hendrickson (Matthew) of Des Moines, and Rachel Fleishman (Andrew) of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Christian, Emma, and Greta Fleishman, Daelah Fleishman, Marin and Kole Johnson, Meredith Hendrickson, and Lewis Aanonson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis of 62 years and his parents.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, at the Dallas Center Church of the Brethren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 20, at the church. Burial will follow at Brethren Cemetery, east of Dallas Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Dallas Center Church of the Brethren.
