Benjamin Franklin Emery (Capt. Ben), 74, of Westbrook, passed away on March 13, 2012, at the Gosnell Hospice of Scarborough.
Born in Biddeford on Nov. 19, 1937, he was the son of Perley M. and Addie Hopkins Emery. Ben grew up in Kennebunk and Portland. He graduated from Portland High School, class of 1956, and also attended Maine Vocational School for Auto Mechanics. Ben worked as an auto mechanic in Portland and Kennebunk through the 70s.
Ben loved building boats and making things out of wood. He got his coast guard vessel operator licence and worked in marine and passenger vessels, whale watch, scenic cruises and fishing boats. He was also the co-owner of Cape Arundel cruises until retiring in 2003.
Ben belonged to the NRA and many rod and gun clubs.
In 2002, Ben found his high school sweetheart, Gloria Ouellette, now his companion and soul mate. He is also survived by his daughter, Kelly Dee Emery of Olema, Calif.; and her mother, Diane Emery of Arundel.
At Ben’s request, there will be no funeral. A graveside service will be at a later date. His ashes will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath.

Diane P. Baker, Benjamin Emery Married in Wells
WELLS — In a ceremony on Thanksgiving night al the Methodist Church-on-the-Cape. Miss Diane Patricia Baker of Wells be Mrs. Emery is the daughter of Mrs. Caslergine, Wells. She was graduated from Wakefield High Schooln, Wakefield, Mass, and is employed by the ffliiblos Agency in Ogunquit. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Perley M. Emery of Portland. He graduated from Portland high school and is employed at Green’s garage in Kennebunk.
The bride chose a ballerina ength gown of white net over satin, designed with a lace bodice appliqued with sequins and seed jcarls. Her fingertip veil fell from a matching headpiece and she carried while roses and a while Bible. Matron of honor was Mrs. Candra V. Hatfield of Wakefield, Mass., Who wore a ballerina englli gown of sea blue satin embroidered with rhinestones. She wore matching accessories anil carried a bouquet of gardenias. Richard Emery of Kennebunkport was best man. The bride’s mother, Mrs. John Castergine of Wells Beach, and her grandmother, Mrs. Margie Jackson, were hostesses for a reception following the ceremony at the bride’s home. Wells Beach Mrs. Violet Bedard was in charge of the guest book. The couple left on a wedding trip, and after their return thyy reside on Route 35 Kennebunkport.
