R. Foster Nevius, 91, of Essex Fells died suddenly and unexpectedly on April 15, 2010. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 271 Roseland Ave., Essex Fells. Interment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dancy Funeral Home in Caldwell. Born in Orange, Mr. Nevius lived in Essex Fells for 47 years. He was the general manager for 35 years of R.H. Wager, a family owned business in Chatham, which manufactured marine equipment for the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1983.
A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Nevius served with the 8th Army Artillery and participated in the Invasion of Normandy and Battle of the Bulge, as well as in the capture of German prisoners outside of Berlin at the end of the war. Mr. Nevius attended Columbia University. He was a member of the Metropolitan Club and the Holland Society in New York, and the Essex Fells Country Club and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Essex Fells.
He was the beloved husband of Janet (nee Dryden); devoted father of Janet Wylie of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and Carolyn Bjorling of St. Augustine, Fla.; cherished grandfather of James and John; fond brother-in-law of Richard Chesnut and his wife, Norma, and loving uncle of Lynn Powers and Michael Wager, Jaqueline Holden, Susan Chesnut and Donald Chesnut.
