      LAIRD, John Clydesdale – 83, Bridgewater, passed away peacefully February 8, 2008, surrounded by family in South Shore Regional Hospital. Born in Liverpool, England, he was a son of the late David and Christina Violet (Tucker) Laird. John worked for many years as an engineer, starting with Rolls Royce during wartime and eventually immigrating to Canada in 1967 to work for the Nova Scotia Power Commission. He attended Saint Mary’s University in the early 70s, becoming a member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada and running his own real estate appraisal business for many years in Bridgewater. Well-known and respected in the community, he loved, and was loved by, his family and will be greatly missed.
       He was predeceased by his first wife, Verna Noreen (Bowden), and is survived by his second wife, Alma (Freeman Skinner); brother, David (Molly), Southampton, England; daughters, Gillian Flood (Terry), Kingston, Ont.; Mary Lou Whitehorne (Lloyd), Lower Sackville; sons, Duncan (Brenda), Grande Prairie, Alta.; Bruce Skinner (Carole), Waterville; grandchildren, Crystal, Robyn, Chad, Deanna, Louise, Ivy, Mark, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Joshua, Sarah Cloud; great-grandchildren, Saleena, Chevy, and Angus.
       The family would like to thank staff of the Intensive Care Unit, SSRH, for their care and kindness. Memorial donations may be made to the Health Services Foundation of South Shore for the ICU (http://www.hsfsouthshore.ca/) or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
