- [S4] Obituary.
Benjamin A Brustkern, 52, passed away on May 21, 2010, in Bozeman. Ben was born on Jan. 31, 1958, to Richard L. and Jane A. Brustkern in Denver, Colo. Ben’s early childhood was spent on the move. In addition to Denver, he lived with his family in Boulder, Colo.; Troy, N.Y.; Omaha, Neb.; and Fort Collins, Colo. When Ben was 12, he and his family took up permanent residence in Bozeman. Ben attended junior high school and high school in Bozeman. After graduation from Bozeman High in 1976, Ben went to work in the general construction industry. He worked on oil rigs in North Dakota and in the Gulf of Mexico. As a carpenter, he worked on a variety of construction jobs in and around Bozeman and in California. He liked doing physical work and using his hands. Ben enjoyed outdoor activities. He loved Bozeman and the surrounding mountains. He liked to camp and to explore Montana via short road trips and leisurely hikes. Although Ben treasured his independence - being able to come and go whenever he wanted, wherever he wanted, with whomever he wanted - he also very much cared for his family and friends. He was always ready for a get-together with his family or a bull session with his friends. Ben is survived by his parents, Dick and Jane Brustkern; his younger brothers, Joe and Pete (Kari); and his younger sister, Emily (Will) Reistad; as well as nine nieces and nephews. Ben was and is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ben’s name to the Bozeman Deaconess Cancer Center, 915 Highland Blvd., Bozeman, MT 59715. Cremation has taken place. A gathering for family and friends to share remembrances of Ben will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel. Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service; www.dokkennelson.com.
