Jane Curtis Whitten, 74, died unexpectedly April 14, 2011, at home. She was born March 8, 1937, in Boston, where she grew up.
Ms. Whitten graduated valedictorian from Roslindale High School in 1954 going on to Jackson College – Tufts University, graduating in 1958. She also received her Master of Education degree from Columbia University, New York. She taught on Long Island, N.Y., and in the Milford, Mass., school systems for more than 25 years. She was a longtime member of Mosman Memorial Park Association and president for several years. Jane was instrumental in writing and obtaining grant funds for new playground equipment for Mosman Park in 2001.
Ms. Whitten was predeceased by her parents, Bertwell M. and Phyllis (Kneeland) Whitten. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bert K. and Hope (Ford) Whitten of Winter Haven, Fla., and Searsport; her niece, Ellen Lencioni and husband, Patrick, of Rochester Hills, Mich.; nephews, Richard Whitten and wife, Leah, of Denver and Steven Whitten of Searsport; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport. A private service will be held Thursday, April 21. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mosman Memorial Park P.O. Box 265,
