Ruth Isabel Holbrook, 68, of Barre died Thursday, March 18, 2010, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston, where she had been admitted earlier in the week.
She was born August 11, 1941, in Evansville, the daughter of Myron Robert and Marjorie (Goodfellow) Skinner Sr. She was a 1959 graduate of Orleans High School and had attended Lyndon State College. On May 28, 1966, she married Kenneth Holbrook in St. Johnsbury where they made their home. He predeceased her. Mrs. Holbrook was a longtime employee of Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Vermont, retiring in 2004.
Reading and attending country music and gospel concerts and ice shows with her sister Myra were her special interests. She belonged to Rob Morris OES Chapter #24 in Montpelier and currently, Charity Chapter #57 of Williamstown.
Survivors include her sister Myra Gauthier, of Colchester; her nephew Paul Gauthier Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, and their children and the joys of her life, Erika and Curtis, all of Williamstown; and several cousins. Also surviving are her aunt Alice Hilliker and her stepmother Ruth Skinner, both of Barton.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Myron Skinner Jr. and her sister Mary Jane Skinner.
The Eastern Star memorial service and celebration of her life was held March 22 in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home in Barre. Later interment will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Orleans.
