GRIGGS, Charles William Howard passed away at Elkhorn Nursing Home July 7, 1996. He was born in Griswold, MB, April, 15,1909 and married Pearl Marguerite Broad on Sept. 18, 1929 in Arden, MB. The couple graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Wesley College, (University of Manitoba) in 1930. They lived in Winnipeg where he taught school. He was a substitute teacher for 18 different schools in Winnipeg. Later they moved to Winnipeg Beach where Charles was a Principal for two years. They moved to the home farm at Griswold and farmed there until retirement. They were married 66 years. Fifteen winters were spent in Florida and 15 winters were spent in Arizona.
He was predeceased by his wife Pearl on Nov. 10, 1995 his granddaughter Charlotte, two brothers Earl and Frank and a sister Willa.
Charles is survived by his five children: Earl, Gordon (Betty) Griggs, Louise (Anthony) Doerksen, Bill (Julia) Griggs, Eileen (Keith) Raisbeck, 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and one brother, Pearson (Muriel) Griggs of BC and one sister Alberta Pybus of Winnipeg.
Funeral service was held Thursday, July 11 at 2 p.m. Rev. Ron Ashbee, Rev. Phil Price and Rev. Dave Thiessen officiating. Organist and soloist was Cathy Doerksen, Alana Price was the pianist. Pallbearers were: Urshel Campbell, Charlie Abbott, George Torrence, Ken Cross, Karl Adolfson, Dave Penny. Interment was in the Griswold Cemetery. Eyers-Nestibo Funeral Home, Melita, MB was in care of the arrangements.
The Griggs family have lived in the Griswold area over 90 years. Charles was an ardent believer in the gospel of Jesus Christ. All who knew him or met him were given the message of the good news of the gospel. Rev. Elsie Wark of Brandon ably paid tribute to his life as a friend and worker for the gospel.
