GRIGGS, Alba Muriel (nee Ashby) 1914 2012 It is with great sadness that the family of Muriel Griggs announces her peaceful passing on January 19, 2012 in the comfort of her Victoria home at the age of 97. Muriel is predeceased by her mother Jean, father Leonard, step-mother Hilda, beloved husband Pearson, sister Margaret (Bruce), and brothers Bryce (Marie) and Jack. She is lovingly remembered by her brother Glenn (Marion), sister-in-law Aileen, many nieces, nephews and their extended families.
Muriel was born in Cowichan, British Columbia in 1914 and moved to Emerson, Manitoba soon after. She married Pearson in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1952 and then accompanied him to Belfast, Northern Ireland where she supported his career as a medical doctor with the Canadian Government. Together, they enjoyed travelling the world in style. Upon Pearson’s retirement, they spent many happy years in Tsawwassen before moving to Somerset House in Victoria. Muriel loved gardening, cooking, playing bridge, sewing, skiing, doing needlepoint and entertaining family and friends. Known affectionately as Mimo," she will be fondly remembered for her smile, intelligence, generosity and great appreciation for the finer things in life.
Her family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Somerset House, Dr. T. Rosenberg, Lynne Boetchar (RN) and the Beacon Community Health Workers who assisted Muriel in her final days. Memorials are being planned for later in the year. 648231
