James C. Ryan, Jr., 68, of Crystal River, Fla., passed away on February 28, 2010, at the Hospice of Citrus County Care Unit at CMH with his wife, Ann Marie, daughter, Peg, and son, Jim, at his side.
James was born on October 27, 1941, in Spokane, Wash., the son of James C. and Margaret D. Ryan. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965 and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky. During his stint in the Army, Jim met his wife, Ann Marie, in February of 1965. They married on April 16, 1966, at Little Flower Catholic Church in Indianapolis, Ind. Mr. Ryan began his career with General Electric Credit Corporation and then moved on to manage Bishops’ Furniture in Lansing, Mich. He spent the majority of his professional life working as a consultant for unemploCaledonia, Kent hearings. He retired from his own firm in 2001. Jim and Ann raised their family in Michigan, moving from DeWitt, where they had lived 19 years, to Howell in 1985, eventually retiring to Crystal River, Fla. in 2005.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of love for all people. Most important to him, always, was family. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Ann Marie Ryan of Crystal River, Fla.; daughter, Margaret Ryan Howard and her husband, Richard, of Caledonia, Mich.; son, James C. Ryan, III, and his wife, Tricia, of Newburgh, Ind.; and sister, Judith Birch and her husband, Ronald, of Spokane, Wash.The best gifts Jim ever received were his five grandchildren, Andrew, Joseph and Elizabeth Howard of Caledonia, Mich., and Emma and Hannah Ryan both of Newburgh, Ind.
Jim loved boating, fishing, hunting and and most of all painting. Jim was also a member of the DeWitt Merry Mixers, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Lions Club. His spirit, humor and passion for life will be missed by all that knew him.
A memorial service for Mr. Ryan will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft Ave. SE, Caledonia, Mich., at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Hospice Care Unit at Citrus Memorial Hospital, 502 W Highland Blvd., Inverness, FL 34452.

April 16 has been set for the wedding of Miss Ann Marie Shewman and James Clayton Ryan Jr. The ceremony will be in the Little Flower Catholic Church. Miss Shewman is the daughter of Mrs. Alfred L. Shewman, 822 North Bosart Street, and the late Mr. Shewman. Her fiance, who lives at 9043 East 39th Place, is the son of Mrs. James C. Ryan, of Spokane, Wash., and the late Mr. Ryan.
