James ’Jim’ Chace, 63 of Mashpee, formerly of Chelmsford, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 27 in Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. He was born in Arlington, MA son of the late Myron Dewey and Ruth (Cathcart) Chace. He lived in Maynard for several years and in Chelmsford for over 29 years before moving to Cape Cod last year. Mr. Chace received a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Boston University. Following college, he began a lifelong career in education as a music instructor in the Sudbury Public School system. He later was music director there. He then transferred to the Acton-Boxboro Regional Junior High School, where he was Vice-Principal for many years, before becoming the Director of Technology, a position he held for 10 years until his retirement two years ago. He was a philatelist, an avid golfer, and an ardent enthusiast of Apple computer technology. He was also an organ donor. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susan (Gardner) Chace; one son, Jeffrey and his wife, Kat of Avalon, CA; one daughter, Deborah Burke and her husband Jim of Billerica; two grandchildren, Ethan Burke and Alyssa Chace; two sisters, Joan Hallberg of Burlington, MA and Barbara Parkins of South Yarmouth; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Chace. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM on Thursday, February 3 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave. at Route 151, MASHPEE, MA 02649. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation, 295 Devonshire Street, Boston, MA 02110.
