      Lena Florence Barnes, 87, of York Manor, Fredericton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2005. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold E. Barnes.
       Born at Brookvale, Queens County, NB, she was the daughter of the late Weldon and Birdie (Clark) Boyd. Following graduation from Saint John High School in 1935, Lena attended the Provincial Normal School and taught several years in New Brunswick. She and Harold moved to Ottawa in 1942 where she was employed with the Bank of Nova Scotia. Three years later they moved to Toronto which would be their home for over forty years. In 1946 she attended Shaw Business School. This was followed by employment with the Empire Stamp Company where she remained for 37 years. Lena was also treasurer of Philatelic Investment Corp. Ltd., as well as, bookkeeper for her husband’s shoe business (Harold Barnes’ Fine Footwear). She and Harold returned to NB in 1988, residing in Fredericton. Lena was a Life Member of the Women’s Missionary Society of Canada and of the Mission Band. She was a member of Grace Memorial United Baptist Church.
       Lena was predeceased by sisters; Birdie Burns and Mary Masson and brothers; Harold, Victor, Ralph, and Weldon Boyd.
       She is survived by brother-in-law Lawrence (Lilly) Barnes, McDonald’s Point, nieces and nephews; Marilyn (Ron) Revelle, Oromocto, Gary (Susan) Barnes, Hampton, Elaine (Brian) Vroom, Fredericton, Randy Barnes (Betty Cole), McDonald’s Point, Stephanie (Mike) Vautour, Kiersteadville, Aaron Barnes, Moncton, Heather Burns, Valerie (Robert) Witterick, Bill (Gail) Masson, all of Toronto, several great nieces and nephews and cousins.
       Resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home (839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting, Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Sherwood’s Chapel at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2005. Interment will be in the McDonald’s Point Cemetery. www.sherwoodsfuneralhome.com
