Fay A. Young, 80, of Lyndon, died peacefully Monday morning, January 31, 2011, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born November 22, 1930, in Lyndon, a son of Fay and Carrie (Hodges) Young.
He graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1948 and from the Vermont School of Agriculture in Randolph Center in 1949.
On September 16, 1957, he married Esther Coffey.· He was a dairy farmer in Lyndon until 1966.· He then became a full-time real estate broker for United Real Estate and was still active up until his death.
He was a founding member of the Vermont and New Hampshire Christmas Tree Association, a member of the Landowners Steering Committee, a director for Lyndonville Savings Bank, a member of the Northeast Kingdom Skeet Club, and the Lyndon Historical Society.· He was an avid supporter of private property owner rights.
Mr. Young’s family and his genealogy were always important to him.· He was active in the Scottish clan Young.· He is remembered as an avid fisherman, gardener, and at every Easter time he made sugar on snow for his entire family.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Esther Young, of Lyndon (P O. Box 1128, Lyndonville, Vermont 05851); five sons:· Michael Young and his wife, Jaye, of Concord, Steve Young and his wife, Robin, of Lyndon, Allen Young and his wife, Tami, of Lyndon, Mark Young of East Hampton, Massachusetts, and Matt Young and his wife, Tiffany, of Lyndon; a daughter, Julie Murphy, and her husband, Peter, of St. Johnsbury; by 22 grandchildren who loved Grampie dearly; several cousins; and his wife’s family with whom he was quite close.· He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral services were held on February 5 at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Barbara Dwyer officiating.· Burial in Lyndon Center Cemetery is planned for Saturday, May 28, at 11 a.m. Donations made in his memory could be directed to Norris Cotton Cancer Center North, Attention Lory Grimes, 1080 Hospital Drive, St. Johnsbury, Vermont 05819.
